چکیده

The spectral and temporal evolution of distributed sensing based on stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) in optical fibers for severalnanosecond Stokes pulses is demonstrated by using the method of lines (MOL) solution of the transient SBS equations. A superbee flux limiter is utilized to avoid numerical damping and dispersion that would otherwise be brought on by the approximation of spatial derivatives associated with the partial differential equations (PDEs). In order to increase computational efficiency, an approach is adopted whereby the sparse PDE Jacobian matrix integrator option of the ODE solver(s) is employed. Simulation examples of SBS-based sensing for fibers containing sections with different Brillouin frequencies are presented. To the best of our knowledge, this MOL solution is proposed for the first time for modeling of the transient SBS equations for nanosecond Stokes pulses with different waveforms in a SBS based fiber optic sensor. Spice Compatible Model for Multiple Coupled Nonuniform Transmission Lines Application in Transient Analysis of VLSI Circuits

An SPICE compatible model for multiple coupled nonuniform lossless transmission lines (TL's) is presented. The method of the modeling is based on the steplines approximation of the nonuniform TLs and quasi-TEM assumptions. Using steplines approximation the system of coupled nonuniform TLs is subdivided into arbitrary large number of coupled uniform lines (steplines) with different characteristi...

Pulse Compression to the Subphonon Lifetime Region by Half-Cycle Gain in Transient Stimulated Brillouin Scattering

A new approach to the transient pulse compression by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is presented. The theoretical analysis involving the time-dependent SBS gain in explicit form leads to a nonlinear system of partial differential equations, solved numerically by a generalization of the split-step method. It is shown theoretically and confirmed experimentally that the phonon lifetime is n...

SBS pulse compression to 200 ps in a compact single-cell setup

Temporal compression of nanosecond pulses from a commercial Q-switched Nd:YAG laser at second and third harmonic into the sub-nanosecond regime is demonstrated. In a geometry consisting of a single cell only, compression in several liquid media is investigated. For both 532 and 355 nm smooth and reliable operation is obtained with output pulses as short as 200 ps. A new concept is proposed to s...

Comparison of The LBM With the Modified Local Crank-Nicolson Method Solution of Transient Two-Dimensional Non-Linear Burgers Equation

Burgers equation is a simplified form of the Navier-Stokes equation that represents the non-linear features of it. In this paper, the transient two-dimensional non-linear Burgers equation is solved using the Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM). The results are compared with the Modified Local Crank-Nicolson method (MLCN) and exact solutions. The LBM has been emerged as a new numerical method for sol...
